Tips and Advice: Eyes - General

1. Tip: Eye Makeup for Hooded Eyes Eye makeup tips for hooded eyes: a heavy eye with very little lid showing. Create a shadow above the crease using a little eye shadow and a soft brush. Work a dark shade (brown) onto the brow bone area and continue up toward the brow. The shadow seems to lift the heavy eye.

2. Tip: Eyeshadow Remnants Broken eyshadows can be kept in small containers and applied with a eyeshadow brush. You can even mix your colors together.

------------------------------

3. Tip: Enhance Blue Eyes To bring out the blue in your eyes wear greens, browns, or bronze colors. The blue will shine through.

------------------------------

4. Tip: Over 30 Eye Makeup no-noīs Very few women over thirty look their best in frosted shadows. That doesnīt mean you canīt use a color with shine just avoid frosted. Frosted shadow has a tendency to expose lines and age your face.

------------------------------

5. Tip: Far set eyes To make your eyes appear closer set, apply your darker shadow towards your nose and use lighter shades on the outer portion of your eye. This gives the illusion that your eyes are closer set.

------------------------------

6. Tip: Reduce Puffy Eyes To reduce puffy eyes, thinly slice a cold cucumber and place a slice on each eye. Some discount stores (Wal-Mart, K-mart, Walgreenīs, etc.) have non-vegetable cucumber pads in the beauty aisles that work just as well. I have used them and put them in the refrigerator to add that wonderful feeling that I get from the coolness.

7. Tip: How to improve dark circles and bags under the eye My understanding is that bags or dark circles under the eyes are usually something that runs in your genetics. I have also heard that the bags can get more pronounced when people smoke or have allergies. So if you smoke or have allergies, it could be that if you stop smoking and/or get allergy relief, you may see a reduction in the bags. Unfortunately there isnīt a medicine or procedure you can have that will eliminate the bags but you can possibly see improvement with some cosmetic treatments. Many of my customers, me included use the SeneGence eye cream combined with the SeneGence concealer. I use one of the SeneGence shadows as a concealer. The key to applying the products is to pat the cosmetics into your skin. Avoid rubbing the eye as it pulls the skin under the eye and makes the bags and circles more pronounced.

8. Tip: Correcting a Mistake If you try a new color pattern on your eyes and you canīt imagine going out with it looking that way there is a way to correct it without taking off all your makeup. All you need to do is dip a cotton swab in your liquid eye makeup remover and very gently take off your eye makeup with the swab. Take your time and use as many swabs as necessary (it may take several). This also is great for taking off your eyeliner at the end of the day. A cotton swab allows you to be more precise in the area you are working with.

------------------------------

9. Tip: Plucking Brows When you are plucking your eyebrows use slanted tweezers and pluck in a diagonal direction. Most important to remember is to always pluck from below the brow never from above.

------------------------------

10. Tip: Creating Smokey Eye Makeup When applying eye makeup for a smoky eye, work a small amount of taupe shadow or a mixture of gray and brown eye cosmetics into the crease. Continue until the area is well defined and the eye makeup well blended. Sweep the same color eye makeup around the corner and beneath the lashes. Taper off near the inside of the eye. Smudge eyeliner deeply into the lashes. You can try completely surrounding your eyes with liner but if they appear tiny the outer corners of top and bottom might be all you need. Use several coats of mascara.
