Tips and Advice: Hair Permanents 1. Perm styles for today The newer, softer styles for the modern woman do not require the curlier perms of the past. Usually a body perm or one that is just a bit more than body, are recommended. A body perm should show some wave or design when wet, but not when dry. A perm that is more than body will have some curl when wet, and very little movement or wave when dry. These perms are just for support. Usually when the top of your hair seems to go flat and it is not time for an all-over perm, having the top re-permed will help you get through it until itīs time for a complete perm. ------------------------------ 2. Body perms New hair styles are softer and less curly than in the past, so be sure to talk to your stylist about a body perm. It should have some definition when wet, showing a very slight curl pattern, but when dry, should not show anything but a slight movement. If you are good with perming your own hair, a good tip is to perm your hair on a rod the size you would normally and then just before it is ready, remove the smaller rods and replace them with a rod a size or two larger. Then when you neutralize the perm, you will have the support of the smaller rod, but the curl pattern of the large rod. ------------------------------ |
